Partagas Serie P No. 2

I picked up this cigar at Cheers Smoke shop yesterday and let it rest only for 1 day as it already had rested in cheers humidor. Today is Saturday and is a snowy day in Toronto and we are having a big storm here from yesterday which will continue all the way throughout the weekend. After having a nice lunch with my wife and watching the snow out the window I said to my self nothing will beat a warm cup of green tea and a nice Cuban torpedo. My favorite Partagas is the Serie D No. 4 but today I decided to review the famous Partagas Torpedo as it suited the snowy day.

Pre-light:
Aroma was great and typical of Partagas tobacco. Construction looks a little rusty and the wrapper is dark. Clipped the cap once and noticed the draw was a little tight and clipped it again and it opened up to the perfect draw the way I like it, a little resistance which makes you work for every puff.

First third:
It took one attempt to light it up and right of the bat I could taste the great cuban flavor with a hint of cedar and coffee. It was producing lots of blue smoke and I was really enjoying every puff. It continued with the pleasant flavor throughout the first third. Burn was laser sharp.

Second Third:
Body was building up to more of the great Partagas full body character and it was still producing allot of smoke. I accidentally knocked the ash off on the floor when trying to take a picture but I could tell it would have held on as it was really solid. The finish on the palette was getting longer and longer and slowly I was getting some floral notes. It was still burning excellent and now it was time to kick back and enjoy the cigar working toward the final third as the cigar was becoming a powerhouse and was screaming attention. This is always the case with Partagas as it moves towards the final third.

Final Third:
The floral notes faded away and what remained was strong tobacco flavor with cedar and a hint of coffee. Finish was a still a mile long and it danced around on my palette for a good few seconds after each puff. The ash was gray and typical of Cuban cigars.
Now the flavor reminded me of Partagas Serie D No. 4 which is my favorite go to cigar. I think the cream of this cigar is the first and then final third when the cigar comes together and shows complexity with everything it has in the house. Tobacco, coffee, cedar, full body and a very long finish. I think that’s why Cubans are coming out with new Partagas Serie D No. 5 which is a short version of Serie D No. 4 measuring at 4/5 inches long to just get down to the best part of the cigar.

Now the cigar was showing some sweet tobacco flavor which was very pleasant and it was like eating chocolate. This is the point that you like it to stay forever. I was enjoying so much that I was already thinking about a toothpick to finish it off but I stopped my self as I wanted to finish it while it tasted great.

Conclusion:
I think this is what a REAL Cuban cigar should taste and smoke. It truly is one of the greatest cigars coming out of Cuba today and I will definitely invest in a box when I open up some space in my humidor. It was a great memorable cigar specially sitting behind the window and watching the snow storm.
I give it a 9.0 out of 10.
